During the Tech Day event, the company revealed that its second-generation “Golden Battery” can recover from 10% to 80% charge in about 10 minutes, a significant improvement over current batteries, which take an average of 30 minutes for a similar recharge.
This innovation could eliminate concerns about the range of electric cars, making them more competitive with combustion vehicles.
The new battery is based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP), a technology adopted by many Chinese companies due to its lower production cost, increased safety, and longer life cycle. Although Zeekr did not provide many technical details, the fast charging is made possible by the brand’s new V3 charger, which operates at 800 kW. Additionally, the battery management system has been improved to ensure consistent charging even at low temperatures, allowing for recharges in adverse conditions.
The Zeekr 007, which will incorporate this new technology, is set to be launched in China in the coming weeks. Zeekr and Volvo, both part of the Geely group, are collaborating on the development of shared technologies, which could facilitate mass production of this battery and help reduce costs.
